Heavy Batter Southern Fried Chicken with Garlic

 
 
This delicious fried chicken recipe is easy to make and a bit different from the others because garlic powder is used to give extra flavor. The chicken is first soaked in milk to make it tender. You can soak it overnight if you want to, for extra flavor, but an hour is fine too.

Chunks of butter are added to the pan for the chicken to absorb. For the richest, most indulgent southern fried chicken recipe, give this one a try. Drain the chicken on kitchen towel when it is ready and then on a wire rack until it is cool enough to eat.

Southern Fried Chicken soaked in milk, heavily battered, seasoned with a hint of garlic flavor and fried golden brown and crispy.

 

Southern Batter Fried Chicken

 
 
Ingredients -
 
12 ounces Milk
2 Eggs
1 1/2 cup Flour
1 1/2 teaspoon Seasoning Salt
1 teaspoon Pepper
3/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 (3 to 3 1/2 lb.) Frying Chicken, cut up
Shortening for frying
1 stick Butter
 
Preparation:
 

Beat eggs and mix with milk.

Put chicken pieces in this mixture and let stand in refrigerator about an hour or more.

Mix all dry ingredients in a large plastic bag.

In large skillet, melt shortening to about an inch deep. Put chicken pieces in bag to coat and then put in hot shortening.

Cut butter in chunks and add to pan.

Cover and fry over medium heat turning occasionally until done.

Remove cover for last 10 minutes to crisp up chicken.
